In what can be described as a shockingly grotesque incident, a Hyderabad doctor has been duped for more than\u2002Rs 10 lakh by a person she was made to believe was a prospective groom. What began as a search\u2002for companionship ended in a nightmare of deception, financial ruination, mental distress.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Smashing Match With a Secret Agenda<\/b><\/h2>\n

The 31-year\u2002old doctor, who was working at a well-known hospital in Gachibowli, had joined a matrimonial platform in January. There, she encountered Harsha Cherukuri, a man who said his family owned businesses in India and abroad. He portrayed himself\u2002as affluent, accomplished and ready to marry. The doctor took him at his word because of his polish and his convincing stories.<\/span><\/p>\n

Caught in a Web of Lies<\/b><\/h3>\n

Within a few minutes, Harsha had spun his story of woe. His business was under an investigation for income tax, he said, leaving his bank accounts frozen. Frantic for financing, he begged the doctor for help. Believing she was helping her prospective partner, she made deposits in multiple transactions, transferring Rs 10\u2002lakh in total after “going through his writings”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manipulation and Broken promises Over promise and under deliver<\/b><\/h3>\n

Harsha extended the deception through false promises. He told the doctor that his mother, a doctor based in the United States, would soon travel to Hyderabad so they could meet and finalize wedding plans. But when his mother did not\u2002come, the doctor became suspicious.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attack That Knew no Bounds<\/b><\/h3>\n

Things took a darker turn when the doctor finally confronted Harsha and asked for her money back. Harsha reportedly started threatening her, saying he would circulate morphed images if she failed to remit him\u2002an extra Rs 10 lakh. That\u2019s when the doctor grasped\u2002the seriousness of the situation and called in her family. She soon reached out to the police for assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Film Nagar police promptly registered a case and launched an investigation. Efforts are now underway to track down Harsha and ensure justice is served.
